Shabani: Ruling majority with their vote gave priority to functioning of state

TIRANA, December 12/ATA/ Endri Shabani reacted today after the Assembly elected him as the new Ombudsman, describing the process as “a vote of confidence that is both important and personally touching, as well as surprising in terms of the dynamics of the proceedings in the Assembly hall”.

Through a reaction in the social media, Shabani expressed surprise at the stance of the opposition MPs, who, according to him, initially supported him with signatures for the candidacy, but then decided not to vote for him in the session.

However, he thanked the 35 opposition MPs who signed his candidacy, emphasizing that he will work in such a way as not to give any reason for regret or doubt.

Shabani also praised the stance of the ruling majority MPs, who initially did not give him signatures of support for his candidacy, but in the final vote they unanimously supported him.

Shabani emphasized that the ruling majority gave priority to the functioning of the state, despite the fact that he himself has been an opposition activist and his remarks may have been unwell-received by the socialist MP.

“Also, I cannot help but sincerely thank the majority MPs, despite the fact that I am aware that, more than for me, their vote was an act of political maturity to resolve the institution’s protracted impasse and take a significant step towards the negotiation process, where this impasse was marked as an unfinished homework assignment. I would like to particularly appreciate the fact that by voting for me, the majority MPs gave priority to the functioning of the state as a team, and humanely overcame the fact that I, as an activist engaged in the opposition ranks, have done and said things that certainly did not please them. I expressed respect for the distinctly higher political level and assure them that in carrying out this important task I will do my best to enjoy the respect of everyone”, emphasized Shabani.

The Assembly elected last evening with 85 votes in favor, 3 against and no abstentions Endrit Shabani as the new Ombudsman for a 5-year mandate. DP MPs left the Parliament hall during the voting process of the candidacies for the Ombudsman. /m.q/r.e/a.f/p.s./
