TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ – The Gender Alliance for Development Center, with support from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, held a conference on Friday highlighting the need to ensure safety, dignity and long-term support for every woman and child in Albania.
Bringing together institutions, municipalities, civil society groups and international partners as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the event reaffirmed a shared commitment to ending violence against women and girls.
The European Union’s Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, said in his remarks at the event that “shelters are more much than emergency spaces; they are fundamental public services that protect lives and support recovery.”
“Sustainable and predictable financing for shelters must be understood as a core responsibility of the state, not something that should be dependent on temporary or donor-driven projects,” Gonzato said.
“These shelters, and their services should meet the real needs of victims of violence and their kids,” he added.
“The European Union and its member states want to help Albania build a society where every woman and child can live safely and fully enjoy their rights,” the EU Envoy Silvio Gonzato said.
