TIRANA, Dec 2 /ATA/ The Regional Hospital Centre ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ has marked another major milestone in thoracic surgery.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the thoracic surgery team successfully carried out a highly complex procedure to remove a cystic formation and reimplant the clavicle using a titanium plate, helping the patient return to normal life.
Dr. As. Fatmir Çaushi, a thoracic surgeon at ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ Hospital, stated that this was a highly complex procedure, performed for the first time at this hospital.
‘It involved an inflamed tumor, initially located in the neck, which then extended into a difficult anatomical area. This location is known among all doctors to pose significant challenges, as it is in close proximity to the subclavian and axillary arteries, as well as the subclavian and axillary veins on the right side, and was also very near the brachial plexus,’ said Çaushi.
According to surgeon Çaushi, performing this surgical intervention would normally require a specialised team including neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, and others.
‘The qualifications of our staff made it unnecessary to involve all these specialist doctors, because everything was made possible by first removing a fragment of the clavicle, creating the space needed for the procedure, and then reattaching the clavicle with a titanium plate without causing any harm to the patient, while removing the tumor with clear margins,’ emphasised Çaushi, adding that the patient was discharged from the hospital after three days in very good health.”
“‘There is very good stability of the clavicle on the right side, and this patient does not require any further intervention because the titanium plate will remain there for life, while the patient can continue living as before,’ concluded Çaushi.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has expressed its gratitude to the surgical team: Prof. As. Fatmir Çaushi, Dr. Shk. Ilir Skenduli, Dr. Alban Hatibi, Dr. Fahri Kokiqi, Dr. Eljana Shima, Nurse Manushaqe Hoxha, Nurse Mirjeta Almeta, and Nurse Valbona Bulku.
