TIRANA, Nov 21 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted today that Corridor VIII is a critical project for European security, having been transformed into a NATO security corridor. At the opening of the ‘Growth Plan – Our Pathway to the EU’ Summit, Rama focused on the specific sectors directly targeted by Growth Plan investments in each Western Balkan country.
Turning to infrastructure, Rama highlighted the Corridor VIII project, describing it as the backbone connecting Albania with North Macedonia.
‘Infrastructure is about building Europe’s arteries. Corridor VIII is not merely a line on a map; it is a link in Europe’s broader infrastructural chain. As Europe re-establishes its supply chains, the Western Balkans must be a key destination, and this is exactly what we are achieving,’ Rama stated.”
Rama also addressed Europe’s investments in the Western Balkans.
Speaking on digital identity, he stated that Albania will have it ready starting next year.
“In the near future, digital identity across the Western Balkans will align with the European model. Interoperable digital wallets will serve as the entry point to a borderless digital Europe. I am pleased to confirm that Albania’s digital identity system is ready and, from next year, will be deployed and fully integrated into everyday life,” stated Rama.
Rama stated that when the EU launches its digital identity initiative in 2027, Albania will be ready and fully prepared to integrate with the system.
