TIRANA, Nov 15 /ATA/ Members of the ‘Pro-Family and Life’ coalition staged a protest on Saturday morning in Skanderbeg Square against the Gender Equality Law. The protest also drew numerous citizens who voiced their opposition, arguing that the law threatens the family and children.
Citizens, holding placards, called on President Bajram Begaj not to promulgate the ‘Gender Equality’ Law.
Linda Pano, an activist from the coalition, urged the protection of children in her speech, stating that the law affects children aged 4 to 18.
“‘This law mandates gender education in schools. Seventy-seven traitors have already disgraced Albania—Mr. President, don’t be the seventy-eighth,’ Pano said.
Another activist warned that the family, as society’s fundamental institution, is being attacked by ideological propaganda that forces people to justify basic identities like man and woman.
“‘The family is society’s fundamental institution, and laws should protect and empower its role as the educator of children, not diminish it. This law shows how ideological propaganda has overtaken reason, forcing us to justify why a woman is a woman and a man is a man,’ the activist stated.
The ‘Gender Equality Law,’ passed in Parliament just a few days ago, has sparked debates and met with pushback from activists who have described it as an anti-national law.
