Malaj: No tax increase or changes in tax rates in 2026

TIRANA, November 14 /ATA/ Minister of Finance Petrit Malaj stated today that the fiscal package for 2026 does not foresee tax increases or changes in tax rates.

In a joint press conference with Head of the IMF Mission in Albania Anke Weber and Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko, Minister Malaj emphasized that the Ministry of Finance is working on a comprehensive review of the fiscal framework, in accordance with Albania’s integration processes towards the European Union.

Asked whether the Ministry of Finance will reflect changes in the form of the fiscal package in VAT, profit tax or personal income tax, Malaj said that the fiscal package for 2026 does not foresee tax increases or changes in tax rates.

“Regarding the integration processes that the Albanian government is undertaking, we have previously stated that the Ministry of Finance is reviewing the entire fiscal framework, in order to align this fiscal framework with the directives and requirements of the European Union,” Malaj said.

Malaj said that the review will extend over a two-year period, including all reduced or exempted tax rates that are not in line with EU requirements.

According to him, the goal is for Albanian fiscal legislation to gradually align with European standards. /gj.m/r.e/a.f/p.s./
