TIRANA, Nov 1 /ATA/ Ex-Romanian PM Adrian Năstase paid tribute to former Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano
In a social media post, Nastase praised Nano’s role in state-building and his leadership in Albania’s democratization and integration processes.
Their acquaintance stemmed not only from their positions as heads of their respective countries but also as leaders of leftist parties from the early 1990s onward.
Nastase stated, “Fatos Nano, former Prime Minister of Albania and leader of the Socialist Party of Albania (PS), was a central figure in the country’s post-communist era. His passing is a significant loss not only for Albanian politics but for the entire nation, which owes him a large part of the progress achieved in recent decades. Over a political career spanning more than 30 years, Fatos Nano played a pivotal role in Albania’s transition from a ruthless communist regime to a more open democracy oriented toward European integration.”
Former Romanian Prime Minister Nastase further emphasized Fatos Nano’s crucial role in Albania’s democratic and modernizing journey.
“Despite facing criticism throughout his career, Fatos Nano leaves a legacy of progress and transformation. He played an instrumental role in stabilizing Albania and advancing its integration into international structures, overcoming both domestic and external challenges. He was a proponent of reforms and democracy, working to usher Albania into a modern era amid significant political and economic changes.”
“Fatos Nano’s legacy shows that even in the toughest times, a leader can play a decisive role in shaping a nation’s future,” former Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase stated in his post.
