TIRANA, Oct 25 /ATA/ – Albania plans to create the world’s first artificial intelligence -powered public procurement system by 2026, Prime Minister Edi Rama said Saturday in his remarks at the Berlin Global Dialogue forum.
Speaking at the high-level event alongside international leaders, Rama said the project – developed in cooperation with Microsoft – aims to simplify bidding procedures for companies and automate much of the procurement process, while keeping final decisions in human hands.
“The final step will always belong to people, not artificial intelligence,” Rama said, adding that the system would make it easier for firms to submit bids and reduce administrative burdens.
Rama also highlighted Albania’s use of AI to accelerate EU accession work, citing collaboration with OpenAI co-founder Mira Murati to deploy AI tools in translating and aligning national legislation with EU law – a process that took Croatia seven years but is expected to finish in Albania by 2027.
