The Franciscan pater, poet, translator and writer Gjergj Fishta is one of the authentic and direct successors of the National Renaissance, an exponent of patriotic and democratic ideals in the conditions created in the twentieth century, and this is also visibly expressed in the ways of reflecting life in his creativity, as a natural continuation of the literary technique of the Renaissance, where romanticism, realism and classicism prevail.
The great writer who left the Albanians the magnificent work “The highland lute”, was born on October 23, 1871, in the village of Fishtë in Zadrima.
Gjergj Fishta was the first Albanian writer, nominated for the ‘Nobel’ prize, a prose writer, poet, translator; “Militant of Albanian literature” – as appreciated by great port Lasgush Poradeci and “National poet of Albanians” by outstanding linguist Eqrem Çabej.
The various combinations of mythology with reality, the severity of the style, the powerful philosophical thought, the dramatic nature of the work have led Fishta to be compared in this field with Goethe and Dante. /p.s./
