TIRANA, October 16 /ATA/ Deputy Director General of the Deposit Insurance Agency (ASD) Martin Blushi presented today at the plenary session of the Parliament the institution’s activity report for 2024.
Blushi underlined that currently the insurance scheme covers deposit up to 2.5 million lekë, which includes about 95% of depositors in the Albanian financial system. While he informed that, ASD is considering increasing the deposit coverage limit in accordance with EU standards, under the assistance of the World Bank.
According to him, the new limit will gradually increase to 6 million lekë in 2027 and to 10 million lekë by 2030, increasing coverage to 98% of depositors and improving security and confidence in the banking system.
Blushi focused on some of the key data in the ASD report for 2024:
“Total deposits in the banking system reached 1683 billion lekë, with an annual increase of 4.9%. Insurable deposits reached 1590.2 billion lekë (94.5% of the total).
Blushi informed that 92.9% of depositors can be fully compensated if necessary.
“This report comes at a time when strengthening depositor protection and credibility in the banking system are considered key elements for financial stability and Albania’s integration into European markets,” Blushi said at the end of his speech. /r.e/a.f/p.s./
