President Begaj marks 9/11 anniversary, expresses solidarity with U.S.

TIRANA, Sept 11 /ATA/ – Albanian President Bajram Begaj on Thursday commemorated the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, expressing strong solidarity with the American people and institutions.

In a message shared on social media, Begaj reaffirmed Albania’s firm stance against terrorism and violence in all its forms, anywhere in the world.

“Today, with deep sorrow, we remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York City. Albania reaffirms its unwavering position against all forms of terrorism and violence, wherever they occur, and expresses full solidarity with the victims’ families, the American people, and U.S. institutions,” Begaj wrote.

Every year on September 11, New York City commemorates the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the 2001 attacks. That day, four passenger planes were hijacked – two were flown into the Twin Towers in New York City, one crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the fourth went down in a field in Pennsylvania.

The final plane was believed to be headed for Washington, D.C., but passengers intervened, preventing the hijackers from completing their intended mission.
