Berisha: DP decision to enter parliament not glorious but crucial

TIRANA, Sept 11 /ATA/- Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha has acknowledged that the main opposition party decision to enter parliament following the May elections in Albania is ‘not glorious” and has sparked dissatisfaction among some party members.

Speaking at a parliamentary group meeting, Berisha said that while many Democrats oppose the move, participation in parliament is crucial to challenge the government’s control over media and public discourse.

“If we had stayed out, Prime Minister Edi Rama would be celebrating tonight,” Berisha warned, describing the current political environment as a “narco-dictatorship.”

He stressed that despite the challenges and criticisms, being present in the legislature is essential for advancing the party’s goals and maintaining a voice against what he termed the government’s censorship and dominance.

Berisha called on party members to recognize the strategic importance of parliamentary participation amid a difficult political landscape.
