President Begaj pays tribute to Mother Teresa on her canonization day

TIRANA, Sept 5 /ATA/ – President Bajram Begaj paid tribute to Saint Teresa of Calcutta, as the world marks the ninth anniversary of her canonization on Friday.

“As Albanians, we are proud to have given the world a saintly and noble figure, a symbol of mercy, love and care for the vulnerable,” President Begaj said in a statement.

The head of state praised the saint’s work and urging citizens to follow her example.

“She taught us that even small acts of kindness have the power to change the world. Let us do a good deed every day,” he wrote, calling Mother Teresa a symbol of mercy and hope.

He described Mother Teresa as “part of our national soul, given to humanity to heal wounds and bring hope where it is lacking,” adding that her life showed how small acts of kindness could change the world.

Pope Francis proclaimed Mother Teresa a saint on Sept. 5, 2016, in a ceremony in St. Peter’s Square before thousands of pilgrims. The canonization followed recognition of two miracles credited to her intercession – the cure of a woman in India with a stomach tumor and the recovery of a young man in Brazil from a brain tumor.

Saint Teresa is an enduring example of charity and compassion through her lifelong service to the poorest and most marginalized, regardless of race, religion or nationality.
