TIRANA, July 30 /ATA/ – Heavy rain aided firefighters in their efforts to put out wildfires across Albania that had raged across Albania after weeks of scorching heat.
The Ministry of Defense reported Wednesday that all but one wildfire across Albania have been extinguished, thanks in part to widespread rainfall over the past 24 hours.
The only remaining active blaze is in the village of Spatharë, in the administrative unit of Vendreshë, municipality of Skrapar, southern Albania.
The Institute of Geosciences forecasts light rainfall today in the districts of Kukës, Dibër, Elbasan, Berat, and Korçë, with isolated light showers in other areas.
In terms of fire risk, the Fier region faces a “high” risk level today, while “moderate” risk is expected in Elbasan, Berat, Korçë, Vlorë, and Gjirokastër. A “low” risk is forecast for Lezhë, Durrës, and Tirana.
Civil protection units remain on high alert across the country.
The Ministry of Defense urged citizens to avoid lighting fires outdoors, report any suspicious activity immediately, and help prevent the spread of flames. “Safety is a shared responsibility,” the Ministry stated.
