TIRANA, July 24/ATA/ For the first time, the Walk21 conference will take place in the Balkans.
From 6-10 October, the Albanian capital will host the 25th edition of Walk21 Tirana, the largest international conference dedicated to walking and liveable communities, organized by the Municipality of Tirana, in partnership with GIZ and the Walk21 Foundation.
Tirana thus joins the network of cities that are leading the global movement for more walking and less pollution.
The conference will gather in Tirana more than 500 participants from over 50 countries, urban planners, policymakers, transport experts, researchers, activists and representatives of local governments to discuss ways in which cities can become more pedestrian-friendly and healthier.
Tirana was selected as the host city thanks to its strong walking culture. The evening stroll, as a shared tradition of generations, but also the fact that over 75% of citizens walk every day to reach their destination, have made the Albanian capital a rare example of active urban living in Europe.
The Municipality of Tirana has undertaken a series of initiatives in recent years to transform public spaces, giving priority to pedestrians, adding green spaces and places where the community can interact. /e.i/j.p/p.s./
