TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ – Albania and Türkiye signed a new cooperation protocol on Wednesday to boost military cooperation and supply 105 mm artillery systems to Albania’s Armed Forces.
Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu and his Turkish counterpart Yaşar Güler signed the agreement that amendments the existing “Financial Assistance Protocol” between the two countries.
According to Albania’s Ministry of Defense, the updated agreement strengthens the existing cooperation framework and broadens support beyond material assistance, now encompassing training, seminars, logistics, transport, and institutional support.
“This new protocol will directly contribute to improving infrastructure, enhancing operational capabilities, and strengthening the professional education of the personnel of the Albanian Armed Forces,” the Defense Ministry said in a release.
Vengu, attending the 17th edition of IDEF 2025 defense fair in Türkiye, discussed strategic security ties with his Turkish counterpart Güler.
Defense Minister praised Ankara’s support in modernizing Albania’s military, saying NATO goals set at the recent Hague summit remain a priority.
Talks also focused on the development of Albania’s defense industry. Minister Vengu said the Albanian government is committed to transforming the sector into a sustainable and competitive component of the national economy.
“Albania is ready to explore concrete opportunities for cooperation with Turkish defense companies, including joint production and technology transfer. Our presence at IDEF 2025 serves as a real platform to advance these goals,” Vengu added.
