Gogu from Strasbourg: EP Report Recognizes Steady Progress in Key Reforms

TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ In the lead-up to the European Parliament’s vote on Albania’s annual report, Socialist majority representative Toni Gogu is in Strasbourg to closely follow the plenary session discussing the country’s progress toward EU membership.

Gogu emphasized that the report, prepared by MEP Andreas Schieder, acknowledges Albania’s steady progress on key reforms, including justice, the rule of law, and the democratic functioning of institutions.

“Albania is advancing with a consistent, trustworthy, and resolute momentum toward the community it naturally belongs to,” Gogu remarked, highlighting that the report is more than just a technical evaluation—it provides a snapshot of the achievements accomplished through commitment and perseverance.

In the report previously approved by the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, particular emphasis is placed on Albania’s full alignment of foreign policy with that of the EU, as well as its constructive role in the region.

According to Gogu, this reflects “the seriousness and maturity of Albania as a worthy candidate country.”

The report is set to be voted on tomorrow by the European Parliament during the final plenary session of this term. /j.p/sm/
