TIRANA, Juy 7 /ATA/ The National Inspectorate for the Protection of Territory (IKMT) and the State Police started on Monday an operation to clear public spaces and unauthorized constructions in the tourist village of Theth.
Prime Minister Edi Rama posted footage on social media from the IKMT operation in Theth, after publicly accusing prosecutor Elsa Gjeli of inaction. According to a statement released by PM, the prosecutor had not launched an investigation into the illegal constructions at the heart of Theth and had disregarded the report filed by the State Police.
Prime Minister Rama condemned an individual illegally building a tourist village in Theth and criticized prosecutor Elsa Gjeli for disregarding the State Police’s complaint and refusing to investigate.
Rama wrote, “What responsibility does Mrs. Gjeli have towards the Republic of Albania, Theth National Park, the dedicated and hardworking people of Theth, the numerous visitors and tourists, and all the teams that have gathered in Theth today—along with the Albanian taxpayers who will foot the bill for wages, fuel, and the cleanup efforts to restore the heart of this enchanting town to its original condition?”
In a video posted on social media, Rama stated that prosecutor Gjeli “did not issue an immediate search warrant for the person responsible for this serious violation and chose instead to dismiss the case.”
