TIRANA, June 30 /ATA/ The bilateral agreement between Albania and Italy in the field of social insurance enters into force on July 1, aiming at the mutual recognition and protection of the rights of citizens who have contributed to both systems.
Albania’s Social Insurance Institute has drafted and published the technical guide to the implementation of the agreement, a detailed document that clearly defines the procedures, the criteria and relevant documentation for application.
This guide will directly serve Albanian and Italian citizens, facilitating the process of benefiting from pensions and other rights deriving from the agreement.
The agreement, which was signed in Rome on February 6, 2024, was finalized with the relevant document that was delivered to Prime Minister Edi Rama in mid-May by his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, during her visit to Tirana for the European Political Community summit.
The agreement guarantees a series of opportunities for those who have worked in both countries. Part of it are those who, due to not meeting the minimum conditions for a pension, have been excluded from its payment until now. This will enable benefits for about 20% of the people over the age of 67, who have not been treated with a pension until now, with the possibility of receiving up to 400 euros per month.
The beneficiaries will have the opportunity to receive pensions from Albania and Italy depending on the years of work they have in each country.
The agreement has made the relevant offices serve as two-way contact points, offering services to Italian and Albanian citizens at no additional cost. /a.f//r.e/p.s./
