TIRANA, June 16/ATA/ President of the Republic Bajram Begaj expressed today his concern about the growing tensions between Israel and Iran.
At the joint press conference with President of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev at the end of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit held today in Tirana, within the framework of Albania’s chairmanship of this process, Begaj called on Iran to halt its nuclear and ballistic programs and fulfill its obligations in accordance with the international law.
“The progress of regional cooperation is tangible. The EU enlargement process is not only related to economic integration and political reforms, but also to improve European security. The war in Ukraine has clearly shown that peace, security and stability in South East Europe are part of the broader European security architecture,” said Begaj.
“Albania expresses concern about the growing tensions between Israel and Iran. This conflict has serious consequences for the Middle East and beyond. Albania reaffirms Israel’s right to the security and protection of its citizens. We also call on Iran to halt its nuclear and ballistic programs and fulfill its obligations in accordance with international law, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” the Head of State emphasized.
“Albania calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and find a lasting solution,” President Begaj underlined.
“For Southeast Europe, these conflicts are a warning and a reminder of the fragility of peace and the frequency and speed with which instability can spread,” he said. /r.e/j.p/p.s./
