TIRANA, May 30 /ATA/ – Three candidates from the open lists of the opposition’s Democratic Party-led Alliance for the Magnificent Albania have submitted complaints over the May 11 parliamentary elections and have requested a full recount in the Tirana district.
The complaints began with Ilir Alimehmeti a candidate in Tirana and one of DP’s most voted candidates, who formally contested the results, alleging that 27 of his preferential votes were misattributed to another DP candidate in just one single ballot box. In his complaint filed with the Central Election Commission, DP candidate Alimehmeti claims that the margin was so narrow that even minor errors could change the outcome.
“During the process of verifying the video footages which were made available to us by the CEC administration, several irregularities were observed that could significantly affect the election outcome,” Alimehmeti says in his complaint.
Two other opposition candidates, Lisandër Hoxha and Mimoza Hajdarmataj have followed the suit, pointing to alleged irregularities backed by video footage of the vote-counting process.
One candidate claims that his votes have been credited to another candidate, while the second says more than 1,000 of her votes may have been misreported across six counting zones.
