TIRANA, May 16 /ATA/ – Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has voiced her country’s support for the European Union’s enlargement drive and Albania’s EU membership bid.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister Edi Rama after the sixth meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) in Tirana on Friday, Danish PM Frederiksen, whose country will host the next EPC summit in autumn 2025, underlined that the EU enlargement is a merit deserved process, but it should maintain momentum.
Frederiksen added that she expects more steps to be taken towards the EU integration of Albania and the Western Balkans during Denmark’s six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“We hope the process is moving forward and we all understand that the EU enlargement process must go on. As you already noted, certain countries have done very good job. Of course, the process is merit-based and I am looking forward to taking more steps during our presidency,” Frederiksen said.
On his part, PM Rama underlined that Albania has a very ambitious agenda to wrap up its EU accession negotiations within 2027, stating that the country should take advantage of the current EU’s readiness to accept new members.
