TIRANA, May 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama underlined Thursday the European Union’s readiness to welcome new members, saying that Albania should take advantage of this opportunity to wrap up the EU accession negotiations by 2027.
Speaking at joint press conference with European Council President António Costa in Tirana, the government head stated that EU is more willing than ever to welcome new members, calling on regional leaders not to miss “this historic window for EU accession.”
“We should take advantage of this opportunity. EU is more willing than ever to accept new members,” he stated, answering to a question whether Albania’s goal to wrap up its accession negotiations by 2027 was a too ambitious plan.
“This is an ambitious plan, but the stars have aligned. The European Union is showing a level of readiness I’ve never seen before to admit new members,” Rama said answering to reporters whether he would deliver on his election campaign pledge to provide Albanians the European passport.
Rama said this is a historic moment for Albania and Albanians.
PM Rama also invited the European Council President António Costa to visit Albania next year to attend inauguration of the academy of the European Academy in Tirana.
