PRISHTINA, April 1 /ATA/ – NATO’s Deputy Secretary General, Radmila Shekerinska, has underlined the importance of continued cooperation between NATO and the European Union to maintain stability in the Western Balkans.
“Continued NATO–EU cooperation is key to safeguarding stability in the Western Balkan region,” Shekerinska said in a post on the social media platform X after meeting with EU Special Representative for the Kosovo–Serbia dialogue, Peter Sørensen.
The NATO official stated that joint engagement between Brussels and the Alliance has delivered concrete results in the region.
Radmila Shekerinska took over as NATO’s Deputy Secretary General on December 2, 2024. As a former Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of North Macedonia, Shekerinska has extensive experience as a policymaker and consensus builder.
Danish diplomat Peter Sørensen officially took over as the EU Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue on February 1, 2025.
Unlike his predecessor Miroslav Lajcak, Sørensen is tasked with advancing dialogue without other regional issues in the Western Balkans, and his primary focus will be the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement.
