PM Rama: SP’s governing program to advance Albania’s EU membership bid

TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama has highlighted importance of reform efforts and the Socialist Party’s governing program to advance Albania’s European Union accession.

Responding to questions on his “Sy m’Sy” social media segment on Tuesday, PM Rama stated that the SP program will support economic reforms and boost Albania’s progress toward EU membership.

“SP has a working and governing program with which we will make Albania an EU member. And this says it all. EU doesn’t reach out to countries that fail to meet the membership standards and criteria in all aspects,” PM Rama said.

According to him, the fact that the EU sees Albania as the country most likely to become a member of the European bloc compared to other countries in the region, shows that it sees the country’s standards and incredible progress to date. He stated that Albania was not seen as a potential candidate country when the Socialists took office in 2013.

The government head underlined that EU accession is a merit-based process.
