Durres port cargo handling volume rises 8%

TIRANA, March 19 /ATA/ – Cargo volumes at Albania’s main seaport of Durres rose 8% year-on-year in the first two months of 2025, handling a total of 548 000 metric tons, according to the Durres Port Authority.

Durres port handles 99% of Albania’s maritime cargo traffic.

To expand logistics and regional trade, the government is building a new port in Porto Romano area, which will also serve two dry ports in North Macedonia and Kosovo.

The new port in Port Romano will provide logistic space to serve as a center for further economic growth for the Tirana – Durrës area and the handling of transit cargo at the port.

Durres port remains one of the most important maritime transport hubs in the region, offering strong trade links with Europe and a wider region.
