“The year 2024 marked the restore of the Academy from a purely honorific institution, to a major active institution of scientific research. For the first time after 17 years, the institutes of Albanology, the Center for the Study of Art, as well as the one of biotechnology and genetics, exercised their activity as an active part of the research and study at the Academy, as its permanent units”, said acad. Gjinushi.
Head of the Academy emphasized that investment in science is the most direct investment for the younger generations and the most efficient measure for curbing the brain drain, and even for brain gain.
Furthermore, Gjinushi emphasized in his speech reconfirmation of the basic theses of Albanology, the antiquity of Albanian language and the Albanian people, etc. emphasizing that the Academy is not denying, but confirming the antiquity and early origin of Albanian and its being an initial branch of the Indo-European trunk, a daughter branch.
Also, Chairman of the Albanian Academy appreciated preparation of the Great Albanian Dictionary as the most important achievement of this academy. The dictionary will contain 120 thousand lemmas, i.e. 20 thousand more than expected.
One of the projects of the Albanian Academy for the future is to have its own publishing entity. The program and goals of the Albanian Academy for 2025 foresee the carrying out of about 140 activities, 84 projects, the publication of 11 periodicals and about 65 titles of works or conference proceedings or promotional publications.
The main objective is to increase investments in science, with clear programming, to reach a funding level of 1% of the GDP before 2030, a target set at the Summit of Academies and Public Universities within the framework of the Berlin Process, held in Tirana. /j.p/p.s./
