“Higher Education 2030”, Manastirliu: Financial support according to academic performance

TIRANA, February 18/ATA/ Minister of Education and Sports Ogerta Manastirliu appreciated the Higher Education Policy Document 2030 as a package of important measures for the future of higher education in Albania.

Present at the National Higher Education Conference held today in Tirana, where Prime Minister Edi Rama also participated, Manastirliu welcomed the work done by the group of professors to draft this document, while noting that, “This is a product of the analysis of the achievements and challenges in implementation of the Higher Education Reform, which for the first time established a system oriented towards quality, transparency and university autonomy”.

She said that, “This document addresses two main goals: Higher Education, an important factor for development of the country’s human, social and economic capital and secondly, the resolute implementation of the standards and policies of the European Higher Education Area and Scientific Research Area”.

Manastirliu said that, “One of the most important pillars of this package is the financing of higher education and scientific research, where the measures include: The new scheme for financing Institutes of Higher Education based on academic performance, the academic level of staff, scientific research, the absorption of investments and projects, as well as implementation of strategic plans of each university”.

In this regard, she continued, institutions that yield high results in these fields will be financially supported for strategic university projects through the new funding formula. Also, for investments in scientific research, we aim to participate in International Alliances and EU programs. Meanwhile, an important place will be occupied by increasing the role of the Academic Diaspora in teaching, scientific research and university governance. /r.e/a.f/p.s./
