TIRANA, Feb 14 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, told a press conference that the DP will press charges against Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, and Director of State Police, Ilir Proda, for failing to take action during the rally held in support of Tirana Mayor, Erion Veliaj, outside the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK).
Berisha stated that “Such actions, which destabilize the country during an election period, are reprehensible.”
“The DP, which vehemently condemns the action, announces that it will press criminal charges against Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha, Director General of State Police, and Edi Rama himself for the unprecedented act that took place yesterday, when factions of the state used violence against other institutions,” stated Berisha.
Berisha added, “If they continue calling for protests, they will face opposition.”
Berisha referred to the gatherings in support of him in front of the SPAK premises as “press conferences.”
“No protest has been called by the opposition. They have been press conferences and will remain press conferences. And as you all are witnesses, not even the smallest act has been committed. I hold press conferences, and they send in 500 police officers,” said Berisha.
Berisha called on the PM “not to destabilize the country,” adding that “otherwise, the opposition will respond with a counter-protest.”
“I tell him once again, don’t dare take the smallest act of violence, or put gangster-like pressure on an authority that is independent according to the Constitution and the law.”
“Certainly, we will defend the Constitution. Then, we will announce the movement for the protection of the Constitution,” said Berisha.
Concerning his remarks about SPAK, Berisha stated that he holds in high regard every member of SPAK, the judiciary, the police, and all other institutions that implement the law, irrespective of their personal beliefs.
