TIRANA, Feb 13 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama has voiced confidence that Albania will be ready to join the European Union by 2027 through the help of artificial intelligence.
Addressing an event on the launch of AI module for the EU integration and accession platform, which is being used by over 1400 integration experts on daily basis, the government head underlined that Albania is making steady progress on the path towards EU accession, focusing on the need to maintain momentum.
“We have always wanted to prepare so that we are ready at this stage by harnessing the artificial intelligence. The day after openAI and ChatGPT were launched, I tried to contact Mira Muratin. It was the first time I was coming across her name. As soon as I contacted her, I asked her whether the artificial intelligence could help us to speed up Albania’s EU accession. She voiced readiness to help us in this respect,” Rama said.
“As everyone will see for themselves, artificial intelligence, including the model already operational, would accelerate alignment of the national legislation and transposition of entire EU acquis. Such a process took several years in other countries that employed large armies of translators and lawyers,” PM Rama said.
The government head sounded confident that the new AI model will help the country to complete entire process within a very ambitious deadline jointly set with the European Commission so that Albania can be EU-ready by 2027.
Albania is making significant progress in its path toward European Union membership, with negotiations moving forward at a steady and accelerated pace. Following the successful opening of Clusters 1 (“Fundamentals”) and 6 (“External Relations”) in 2024, the year 2025 has started with a strong focus on two crucial groups of chapters: Cluster 2 (“Internal Market”) and Cluster 3 (“Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth”).
Alongside the momentum on economic integration, Albania has also received formal approval to advance negotiations on Cluster 3, which focuses on strengthening economic competitiveness and fostering inclusive growth. On February 12, 2025, the Polish Presidency of the EU sent an official letter requesting Albania to submit its negotiating position on this group of chapters.
