Lezhë Castle restored through EU4 Culture programme

TIRANA, Jan 11 /ATA/ – Lezhë Castle, another treasure trove of Albania’s history, has been recently renovated under the post-earthquake recovery program through  the European Union-funded EU4Culture programme in collaboration with  UNOPS  Albania.

The project “Emergency Consolidation of the Northern Wall Part of the Castle of Lezha, Albania,” focused on stabilisation of the severely damaged northern section of the castle’s curtain wall, in a bid to protect and secure architectonic conservation of the site.

The project was also designed to return the castle’s territory to its identity.

The castle’s curtain walls have been fully restored with a fresh and sustainable look, featuring every value and historical phase of this unique monument. The restoration works were carried out by ADStar, with the support of DRTK Shkodër, for the repair of the damaged infrastructure.

UNOPS and the European Union (EU) are restoring cultural heritage sites in Albania and supporting local community development.

Lezhë Castle is now not only a symbol of history, but also an example of commitment to preservation of history and cultural heritage. The castle is one of the most popular cultural heritage attractions in the north-western Albanian town of Lezhe.
