Foreign Minister: Albanian government committed to preventing any unexpected security situation

TIRANA, Dec 27 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani stated Friday that Albanian government and special law enforcement agencies are totally committed to preventing any unexpected situation from happening.

Asked by reporters at the last press conference of the year whether Albania was exposed to terrorist acts and attacks similar to the most recent one in Germany, Foreign Minister reassured the public that the Albanian government and its special structures are committed to prevent any situation.

Foreign Minister commented on the recent attack in a Christmas market in Germany, saying that authorities in the country and in the region should remain on high alert.

“What happened in Germany was terrible. We have extended our condolences to the German people, to the families of those who lost their lives. We will continue to maintain the same level of alert as far as the region is concerned. It is important to understand that something that happens close to our border can very quickly happen to us and therefore heightened attention is needed,” Hasani said.

Hasani also reaffirmed Albania’s strong support for Kosovo, describing it as a national priority. He reiterated the country’s commitment to supporting Kosovo in its dialogue with Serbia and condemned any violence or terrorism in Kosovo.
