TIRANA, December 24 /ATA/ Director of the Agency for Innovation and Excellence Ledi Imeraj said in a media interview today that the government’s decision to ban the TikTok platform in Albania followed several analyses.
“There is no mechanism for the data investigation. Then, there is the algorithm that creates addiction or commitment to these platforms. It distracts the users who do not have the opportunity to use our brains creatively. The government took the decision after analyzing data and receiving information from parents. I say, there is a certain limit and I believe, i.e. Albania, the government, has come to the conclusion that this limit has been reached and is about to exceed,” said Imeraj.
According to the director of the Agency for Innovation and Excellence, it would be better for Albanians to find other ways on alternative platforms such as Facebook or Instagram to create their own profile and content.
“In regard to TikTok, the management company is located in China. I have also seen some videos that say it is in Singapore. In many countries, including the US and Canada, the governments have seen that these platforms pose a risk to the distribution of national security data, making this one of the main reasons in taking this decision. India has already banned TikTok”, she said.
For expert Imeraj, if the platforms are used properly, without abuse, they do not create any problems for children or other age-groups.
“Thus, the Facebook was used successfully in President Obama’s victory. Social environments, when used regularly, are successful and yield success. These platforms must be accountable and this is the message given to them, to serve the citizens. With technology, you can do whatever you want. The people control the technology. The people who use innovation should use it positively, to empower economies, businesses, countries and people. There are opportunities and there are also examples of success”, said Imeraj. /r.e/p.s./
