Rama discusses with skier Lara Colturi achievement of seeing Albanian flag on podium in skiing discipline

TIIRANA, Dec 21 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, in episode 15 of Season 3 of the “Flasim” Podcast, hosted skier Lara Colturi, who represents Albania in the most important ski competitions in the world, referring to her as the “Princess of Snow.”

“At just 18 years old, Lara Colturi comes from the snow-capped peaks of the world. Born and raised in Italy, she chose to become Albanian, to wear the Albanian flag on her chest, and to represent Albania in skiing. Despite her youth, she has already shown promising signs that the Albanian flag will soon be raised in a sport that is entirely new to the country. Thanks to Lara and her mother, this could become one of Albania’s future disciplines,” said Rama while introducing Lara Colturi.

Skier Lara Colturi said, “We made this decision together with my parents after seeing the opportunity to be together with my family on the slopes and to work alongside my parents.”

In response to Prime Minister Rama’s question about why she made the highly welcomed decision to move from one side of the sea to the other and acquire Albanian citizenship, Colturi explained that she was in Category C at the time.

“I was in the 12-13-14 age category, I had won all the competitions, and we thought that taking such a step would open all the doors towards ranking in the top positions and experiencing what I am experiencing now—my dream, together with my parents, while also having fun,” she said.

The Italian-Albanian skier Lara Colturi made her first appearance on the podium in November this year, securing second place in the World Cup Ski event in Obergurgl, Austria.

The skier representing Albania finished second in the Slalom race, just 0.55 seconds behind American champion Mikaela Shiffrin, who holds the record with 99 World Cup wins.
