TIRANA, Dec 5 /ATA/ On Thursday, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, visited the “Halit Coka” school in Kamza to continue their advisory discussions with parents and teachers about restricting networks like TikTok0.
In his remarks, Rama said that a digital system would be installed at the school entrance to alert if anyone is carrying a cellphone.
He said that this system will be piloted at the “Fan Noli” high school, which the late Martin Cani attended.
Rama emphasized that the use of cellphones will not only be prohibited for students, but also for teachers.
“First and foremost, a large part of the blame is attributed to the gap in communication between the school and parents. In this context, the school must take the first step, which is why we are investing in expanding the parent information program to offer regular updates on behavior and other issues,” said Rama.
“Second, with regard to cell phones, we have the rule in place, but enforcing it is not so straightforward, and we are aware that they are being brought into schools.”
Therefore, the PM said, “The system I spoke about will be highly beneficial to us.”
“We will pilot the program at the ‘Fan Noli’ school symbolically for a digital check at the door. Not like those at airports, but a system that directly detects any kind of mobile device, knife, or any object a person might carry. This will significantly reduce the chances of bringing cell phones into the school,” said Rama.
The third point, the Prime Minister stated, “We need to impose sanctions, because otherwise, what they say will happen, will happen.”
“We’re not saying that students shouldn’t bring their phones, but they should leave them at the school entrance. For students concerned about losing their phones, a locked area can be set up where they can leave them before entering,” said Rama.
But, as the PM added, “These are technical matters; what is important is that we cooperate.”
“The truth of the matter is that the state cannot play the role of the parent or the teacher. A parent is a parent, and a teacher is a teacher. It cannot be replaced. What we need to do is limit our children’s ‘friendship’ with this ‘friend’ of theirs,” said Rama.
“Class time and time spent in school should be cell phone-free. This should also apply to teachers; their phones should be left at the door. In case of an emergency, they can get in touch, but that’s it. There’s no need for a phone, especially since some teachers keep their phones in hand at all times,” he emphasized. /j.p/sm/
