Albanian parliament begins new legislature, Speaker Spiropali calls for cross-party reflection and commitment

TIRANA, Sept 2 /ATA/ – Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali called for common reflection and cross-party commitment to Albania’s European Union accession goal as the new parliamentary session began on Monday.

Albanian Assembly reconvened a plenary session marking the opening of the Session 7 of the Legislature 10 this afternoon.

Delivering remarks in her capacity as the new Speaker of Parliament, Spiropali focused on reforms and the country’s EU integration process.

“Inclusiveness and commitment to the democratic legitimacy in this process is an absolute priority for everyone and there is no room for divisions between leftists and rightists,” Spiropali stated.

According to her, Parliament will continue to strongly support Albania’s strategic partnership with its big allies, the United States of America, the European Union and NATO.

Speaker Spiropali called on lawmakers to demonstrate ethics and respect the Assembly of Albania.

“Let’s all defend to the end our opinions and views, but let’s do so by showing parliamentary ethics, by respecting the institution of the Assembly of Albania and the citizens, who have voted us,” she said.

Spiropali called on opposition to join the two special parliamentary committees to further advance important reform efforts.

“Supporting and strengthening independent institutions and government bodies so that they increase accountability and transparency before the country and citizens. We should cooperate for the investigative commissions,” she said.
