Rama: New EU growth plan enables gradual integration into single market

TIRANA, Aug 26 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that the new European Union Growth Plan enables gradual integration into the economic space and the European single market.

In his remarks at the Annual Conference of Ambassadors of Albania, Rama focused on the nature of the negotiation process and interaction with the EU which, according to him, “is very dynamic”.

“I avail the opportunity to mention a concrete fact related precisely to Albania’s proactive role through dynamic diplomacy in light of the EU’s influence in our interests, viewed from a wider angle as part of the common regional interest. Specifically, I want to talk about drafting a new EU policy through a new financial and development instrument for our entire region, which goes beyond the IPA funding support system,” Rama said.

The new Growth Plan, according to the prime minister, “specifically addresses a great need of Albania and countries of the region to improve performance and increase economic convergence with EU countries”.

“Under this plan, as we negotiate EU accession, we gradually integrate into the economic space and the European single market. This is something new that is presented as an opportunity for the countries of our region and is related precisely to our proactive role and to a new, persistent approach on our part to do our best in our interests, by managing to argue the conformity between these interests and our allies and partners, in this case the EU” added Rama.

The new Growth Plan, according to the Prime Minister, “is an instrument now in our hands and together with partners in Brussels we are in a process of setting all the milestones we want to achieve through these steps to increase the extent of integration, without waiting to become EU members”.

“This is also why we have embarked on a new process as part of an ambitious goal of launching a new wave of reforms by establishing in the Albanian Parliament a special commission on good governance, rule of law and anti-corruption,” Rama added.
