TIRANA, Aug 26 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, stated on Monday that the Albanian government is determined to reach the standards for membership in the European Union while maintaining the momentum of reforms.
In a press conference alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, Minister Hasani pointed out that “Slovenia is a strong advocate for our European and regional perspective”.
Hasani said that “Fajon is a steadfast proponent of our integration into the European Union”.
“Today’s visit marks an historic moment in our bilateral relations, which have always been based on mutual respect and understanding and close cooperation, as two friendly and allied countries. Slovenia has been and remains a role model for us, not only as the first country in the region to join the European Union, but also for democratic developments and the consolidation of the rule of law institutions,” Hasani said.
Briefing on the bilateral meeting with Fajon, Minister Hasani said that other than bilateral and multilateral issues, we talked over our pathway towards a united Europe.
“Throughout this time line, Albania has taken important steps in implementing the necessary reforms. The Albanian government has worked hard to implement the reforms required for EU membership, especially in areas such as justice reform, where vetting of judges and prosecutors and the establishment of new justice institutions are positive steps forward, while full and sustainable implementation is an essential factor. The fight against corruption and organized crime has marked a significant progress in this regard, such as high-profile cases and an independent and efficient justice system”, he stressed.
“The government and institutions are committed to maintaining momentum in our reform efforts and ensuring that Albania continues to meet the high standards required for membership. Building and increasing the capacity of institutions is another milestone. We are investing in training and resources to ensure that our institutions can effectively implement and monitor EU-related policies and regulations,” Hasan said.
With regard to bilateral relations, Hasani said they are at a very good level.
“We are committed to deepening them even further, exploring new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as economy, education, culture, and defence. The agreement signed a few days ago between the two Ministers of Agriculture, encourages and enables the increase of cooperation and food safety. A memorandum in the field of tourism and a protocol between the ministries of education for cooperation in the field of education will be signed, contributing to the development and expansion of cooperation in the field of higher education” , added the minister.
