Koçiu: Service package for victims of violence also extends to online dimension

TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, participated on Wednesday in the 3-day conference of the Parliamentary Network “Women free from violence,” co-organized by the Parliament of Albania and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Koçiu said that “online violence, a global phenomenon, is one of those forms of violence that is reported and, unfortunately, is fought less than any other form.”

“The change of the Criminal Code including the provisions of psychological violence has laid a solid basis for the prosecution and punishment of perpetrators, so we are working on other interventions in the legislation to define more clearly what should be considered digital violence,” Koçiu said.
Minister Koçiu said that “the protection of the victims of violence and guaranteeing their rights tops the agenda of the govt. and the Ministry of Education and Culture.”

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, as the institution that is in charge and coordinates gender equality policies, plays a pivotal role in protection and support for victims of violence.

“The focus of MoHSP is on the expansion of the package of services offered to victims of violence also in the dimension of the online world. The joint commitment of the institutions is necessary to raise awareness and to put on a united front when dealing with these phenomena”, said Koçiu.
55 foreign delegates, among them 30 MPs from 46 member states of the Council of Europe, including Austria, Norway, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal, are participating in the Conference of the Parliamentary Network “Women Free from Violence.”
