Gogu: Opposition needs to contribute its input to anti-corruption commission

TIRANA, June 3 /ATA/ Socialist Party MP Toni Gogu, who is also vice-chairman of the National Council of European Integration, said that the Assembly has demonstrated the utmost commitment to fight corruption.
According to Gogu, the mechanisms to fight corruption have been set up in partnership with international partners, adding that the opposition must contribute its input into the special anti-corruption commission set up at the proposal of the majority a week ago in the Assembly.

“Our society’s battle with corruption is complex and as such requires a number of mechanisms. “Only a few months ago, if I’m not mistaken, it’s not been a year since the amendments to the law on the National Integration Council, through which we strengthened the oversight mechanisms of this council, strengthening the advisory role we have,” said Gogu.
“Last week alone, this Assembly set up a special instrument, which is the Special Commission for Good Governance, Fight against Corruption and Rule of Law, for which I am sure that you, Ms. Tabaku, and your colleagues have a lot to contribute in this regard “, added Gogu.
According to Gogu, “we, as a majority, have proposed a special commission, a special regulatory instrument, which deals with that complex aspect of the fight against corruption. It has to do with our state heritage, the challenges of transition, of this state-making culture that we are facing and trying to create continuously”, added Gogu.
“We have a lot to propose, either in our individual role as a deputy, or in the legal role as a Council in the special mechanism established by the Assembly of the Republic. So I believe, the parliament is highly committed to address the challenge of the fight against corruption,” said Gogu.
