Rama: Albania targeted in well-coordinated attack by force designated as terrorist by US

TIRANA, Oct 19  /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama met with Interior Minister Ervin Demo and senior State Police officials at the Ministry of Interior today to discuss the violent protests that have taken place in Tirana in recent days.Rama also addressed Russia’s role, stating that Moscow has no interest in Albania’s economic growth, attracting foreign investment or advancing its integration into the European Union.

Russia is an enemy of Albania and acts against the country’s interests. It is neither an ally nor a partner, and it does not want to see Albania prosper, remain stable, attract investment, develop its economy or join the European Union.

Nor does Russia want Albanian students to enjoy the same opportunities as their European counterparts, with access to universities in Tirana, Warsaw, Brussels or Paris as European students holding European passports. It is no coincidence that Vladimir Putin’s ideological mentor in the Kremlin has come out in support of the Albanian nation, referring to Orthodox Christians and Sufis who, he claims, are finally revealing their true nature by opposing the European democratic order,” Rama said.

Rama also alleged that thousands of fake social media accounts had been created to impersonate Albanian citizens and influence public discourse.

“This is no coincidence. We know very well that from the very first day the flamingos appeared, alongside the wave of public discontent that brought many citizens out into the streets, another wave was unfolding: Russian influence across social media. Thousands, even tens of thousands, of fake accounts posing as Albanians and claiming to defend nature were activated. The same happened with thousands of other accounts linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which were mobilized to defend nature in Albania,” Rama said.

“How can any of this be a coincidence? These are not coincidences. There is nothing accidental about what is happening here. Albania has become a target of a well-coordinated attack by a blind force which, as I mentioned, has been designated a terrorist organization by the president of the United States,” he said.
