TIRANA, May 22 /ATA/- “I have not had my hands tied in 2008, either in 2023 or in 2024 and will not have my hands tied as long as I perform my function as a prosecutor,” the chief prosecutor of SPAK, Altin Dumani, said in his remarks.
Dumani was asked by DP MP Flamur Noka regarding the legal proceedings against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha: “You have initiated legal proceedings against the leader of DP and the opposition without any facts or evidence. Today he is held as a political prisoner although he faces no charges at all. It is an unprecedented case and as such not based on law. Of course, you started legal proceedings against him in breach of the Constitution. You have also initiated legal proceedings against Fatmir Mediu, another leader of the opposition, although the statute of limitations on his case has run out.
Proceedings against Ilir Meta, leader of another opposition party are in the pipeline. Are you being politically taken advantage of to fight the opposition or have you been assigned by the head of this regime to complete a mission forced?
While reporting to the Parliamentary Law Committee, Dumani replied to Noka, saying: “I am what I was. I didn’t have my hands tied in 2008 and I won’t have my hands tied either in 2023 or 2024 and as long as I perform my function as a prosecutor. I’m a prosecutor. I associate myself with the duty of prosecutor. As to political influence? There is no way I am politically biased and there is no way my work is swayed and you know it very well that it is impossible for someone to sway me when it comes to performing my function.”
“Zero chances in my work and of my colleagues with whom we share every problem and every concern arising along the way. Regarding the case of the former prime minister, it is a case under investigation, I cannot comment on that. However, every decision is checked by the judicial system, yet I can say that for sure justice cannot be challenged and I am not a hostage to anyone,” the chief prosecutor of SPAK said.
