Climate Change Forum, Veliaj: Cooperation between cities of B40 network

TIRANA, May 22 /ATA/ The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, participated on Wednesday in the climate change forum, which brought together representatives from the B40 network of cities.

The discussions revolved around the climate actions undertaken by the cities and came up with proposals to involve the entire network.

In his remarks, Veliaj highlighted the cooperation between the cities of the B40 network, for building a system that learns from each other’s experiences.

The mayor emphasized that the duty of the elected officials is to make decisions at the right time, such as planting trees or freeing occupied pedestrian spaces.

“When transformations happen very quickly, there are some people who applaud them, saying: ‘Very good, we need to keep the momentum.’ There are some people who, as we say, are nauseous from rapid developments and say: ‘We like the things the way they were’. But the duty of those who involved politics and are elected by vote is to make decisions. There are decisions that are time sensitive, such as planting trees, freeing up occupied pedestrian spaces, discussing the problems caused by erosion, storms, or high temperatures,” said Veliaj.
The mayor said that work is also underway to complete several green trails, which will connect the two central parks with each other.

He said that 8 years ago, the share of Tirana workforce was 25% in textile products and 25% in footwear, while today this percentage is divided between tourism and digital jobs, which pay 10 times.
