TIRANA, May 10 /ATA/ – The Acting Head of OSCE Presence in Albania Clarisse Pasztory attended the annual meeting High Prosecutorial Council and the High Judicial Council on the 111th Justice Day, an event supported by the OSCE Presence and the EU4Justice project.
In her remarks, the OSCE diplomat Pasztory said that “corruption, impunity, and inefficiency undermine the credibility and effectiveness of Albanian justice system.”
Pasztory stressed the need for reforms, increased transparency and accountability.
“Together we must confront these challenges head-on through reforms, increased transparency, and accountability. Justice is not only based on quality laws and quality law professionals, but on public trust,” the OSCE Ambassador stated.
“Public trust by Albanians in their own institution is a sensitive, slowly opening bud that we must nourish and protect. You, the justice professionals, are the banner-holders of the credibility of your justice system and with it of your democracy. You are carrying an enormous responsibility, we can only seek to assist you in carrying it proudly and well,” she noted.
“We must acknowledge the challenges and obstacles that persist in Albania’s legal development. OSCE Presence in Albania backs all investigators, prosecutors, and magistrates in the country. An attack against any of them is intended to deliberately undermine trust and confidence in justice institutions,” Pasztory concluded.
