TIRANA, May 9 /ATA/ – Bank lending to the economy further accelerated, recording a 11.6 % increase in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Bank of Albania.
Central bank said Thursday that the lending expansion has addressed the needs of businesses and households for investments and for circulating capital.
During the reviewed period, the structure of the lending portfolio has obviously shifted to Lek-denominated bank loans.
According to central bank, the increase in national currency-denominated loans is driven by low interest rates, as well as by quality improvement of loan portfolios as clearly shown by further decline in non-performing loans ratio.
Central bank underlined that the upward trend in lending growth is expected to continue driven by increasing demand for bank loans, as well as the accommodative offer, further supporting expansion of the economic activity and consumption.
