Tabaku: Integration into another phase, it should become a national process

TIRANA, April 11/ATA/ The MP of the Democratic Party in opposition, at the same time the Chairwoman of the Integration Council Jorida Tabaku called on the ruling majority to give more space to the opposition and civil society when it is a question of the European integration process. According to her, for this process, there is required a national discussion.

During the discussions in the Assembly on the report of the National Integration Council, Tabaku said that the integration process is not a matter of a party or government, but a national matter of all the Albanians.

“This matter brings all the parties together. Today, we should convey a message that this process is not only the responsibility of the government, but the opposition must also get involved in this process, to give their opinion, even if it is wrong, but they must give their opinion for the integration process”, said Tabaku.

“Secondly, last year the Parliament of Albania approved with 119 votes the law on the integration process. I thanked all the colleagues of the opposition who, in a difficult situation, came together to vote for the law, judging that the role of the Assembly in the Integration process increases and that at the same time the role of the legislative colleagues in the process increases. But, the integration process has remained only in the level of the “Power Point” presentations. Here we are not talking about the quality of reforms; here we are not talking about laws that change the quality of life of Albanians. Here we are talking about presentations made by MPs in Brussels and not about integration reforms”, said Tabaku.

“I regret that during the past year, we had unilateral votes on laws that did not increase the role of the Parliament, but reduced the role of the opposition in the Parliament. The approval of the law of investigative commissions, the unilaterally voted Assembly rules of procedures are some of the laws that were approved by the ruling majority, shrinking the role of the opposition”, said Tabaku.

“Consent has long been an obligation for the integration process. The integration process is now at another stage. It is at the stage when, after the end of the screening process, we have to move to a qualitative change that must come from this parliament”, stated Tabaku./p.s./
