TIRANA, March 14 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama extended his best Summer Day wishes on Thursday, as Albanians celebrate the annual pagan holiday, marking the end of winter, celebrated nationwide every March 14.
In a post on the social media, the government head said that this day is a harbinger of more sun and prosperity.
The annual pagan holiday celebrating the official end of winter nationwide – Summer Day – has already established its tradition not only in the central Albanian city of Elbasan, where a series of events are scheduled to take place.
Tirana Municipality has also become the epicenter of Albania’s sole official holiday with pagan roots and a full 24-hour agenda of festivities has been already announced with 34 various events, including concerts, exhibitions, artistic performances, as well as sports activities and cultural events.
Approved by the Albanian Parliament in 2004 as an official and national holiday, this day of pagan celebration symbolizes the rebirth of nature, the awakening from a long dark winter and a general rejuvenation of one’s spirit.
