U.S. Ambassador: Kosovo-Serbia normalization process should end with mutual recognition

PRISTINA, Dec 29 /ATA/ – The United States Ambassador to Kosovo Jeff Hovenier stated Friday the U.S. hopes to see “real progress in the implementation of Kosovo-Serbia agreements an expects that the normalization process ends with mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as both seek to advance their EU path.”

In a video message ahead of the New Year’s Eve, Hovenier said that U.S. expects to see real progress in 2024, calling on Serbia to take significant steps to fulfill obligations under the Ohrid agreement, and for Kosovo to fulfill all of its obligations, including moving forward on the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities.

Hovenier said that the United States of America is as committed as it has ever been to the partnership with the people of Kosovo, saying that together with the Kosovo government and people, U.S. has advanced many primary goals.

“Now, ultimately, this normalization process ends with mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia as both seek to advance their EU path. Implementing the Basic Agreement and its Implementation Annex is a major step towards that future,” Hovenier said.
