TIRANA, Dec 6 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated Wednesday evening that the opposition demand for parliamentary investigative committees run counter the constitutional principles accused the opposition of pursuing a disruptive and destructive agenda in a bid to purposefully trigger chaos and political conflict.
The government head commented on the opposition’s recent actions during a TV talk show, saying that the opposition demand for parliamentary investigative committees goes beyond the constitutional criteria.
“It is a number of criteria set by the Constitutional Court and that should be taken into consideration when setting up a parliamentary inquiry committee,” PM Rama said, adding that the demand to establish such committees is a constitutional and legal matter.
“The Constitution allows and grants the right to a small number of lawmakers and the opposition to demand establishment of an investigative committee. However, on the other hand, setting up such a commission is not an automatic action, but a decision that should be made based on constitutional and legal criteria,” Rama said.
According to the government head “as long as these criteria are not met, no parliamentary investigative committees can be established.”
The Premier stated that the parliamentary investigative committees cannot be set up based on assumptions only.
“As soon as the opposition feels that its right is being infringed, they can refer the case to the Constitutional Court,” Rama said.
