TIRANA, Nov 8 /ATA/ The member of the Democratic Party leadership and deputy Eralda Tase Bano, in a media statement on Wednesday, stated that the majority is in a hurry to approve the 2024 draft budget which, according to her, has significantly reduced funding in the sector of education.
Bano recalled that the government had pledged in the first term of office to commit 5% of GDP to education sector spending, which, according to her, has never been delivered.
Meanwhile, Bano said, in 2024, the education sector spending as a whole will account for only 2.3% of GDP.
“Funding figures in higher education, allocation for students, lecturers and researchers have been at quite low levels. We are the poorest country with the highest cost of studies in the field of Medicine if compared to public universities in Europe,” she said.
“We have not received any information on the budget allocation for the increase in university teachers’ salaries. It is not reflected in this budget, how the control of plagiarism promised and programmed since 2018, as part of the “Pact for the University” will be carried out. We have not received any information when we will have at least one university campus, how many laboratories and libraries will be at the service of lecturers, students and scientific researchers?”, she said.
According to her, there is a number of questions left unanswered.
